This policy describes what Kindly Put does now. When that changes — when we add analytics, a newsletter or advertising — this page is updated before the change goes live, and the date above changes with it.
What we collect today
We measure how the site is read, and we do it without cookies and without anything that could identify you.
When you open a page we record:
- which page, and how far down it you scrolled;
- how long you were actually reading — the clock stops when the tab is hidden or idle;
- which links you followed;
- the site that sent you here, if any;
- your country, and whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer.
To count a visit once rather than five times, we need to recognise that several page views belong to the same visit. We do that by taking your IP address and browser description, mixing them with a secret that is destroyed and replaced every night, and keeping only the resulting fingerprint. That fingerprint cannot be turned back into your IP address, and tomorrow the same person produces a different one. We cannot follow you from one day to the next, and we do not want to.
Your IP address is never stored. There are no cookies, nothing is written to your browser’s storage, and no third party receives anything.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we record nothing at all.
Our hosting provider separately processes the technical information any web server receives in order to deliver a page — including your IP address — to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
What is coming, and what it will mean
- A newsletter. If you subscribe, we will hold your email address to send it to you, and you can unsubscribe from any issue.
- Advertising. If we run display advertising, the ad provider may set cookies or similar identifiers — that is their technology, not ours. We will name the provider here before it starts, and where consent is required we will ask for it properly.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to certain processing. Write to hello@kindlyput.com and we will answer. Since we do not collect personal data, in most cases the honest answer will be that we hold none: what we keep is a nightly-rotating fingerprint that is not linked to you and that we could not connect to you even if asked.
